GATE results

GATE 2008 results will be announced on March 15, 2008 at 1000 hours at GATE offices of IISc/IITs. It will also be available on the websites of IISc/IITs. With effect from GATE 2008, the GATE website will provide the GATE scores to both qualified and non-qualified candidates.

GATE 2008 score is valid for two years from the date of announcement of the GATE 2008 results.

GATE scorecard

Scorecard will be sent only to the qualified candidates. No information will be sent to candidates who are not qualified.

The GATE scorecard is a valuable document. Care should be taken to preserve it. Additional scorecards (upto a maximum of two) will be issued on payment basis only once.

The scorecard cannot be treated as a proof of date of birth, category and disability status.

The scorecard will indicate GATE score and rank of the qualified candidates.

GATE score

The GATE score of a candidate is in the range 0 to 1000. It reflects the performance of a candidate, irrespective of the GATE paper or year in which he/she has qualified. Candidates with same GATE score from different GATE papers and/or years can be considered to have the same performance level.

The marks obtained by the candidate is normalized on the basis of the average and standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on the scorecard in GATE 2008. Subsequently, this is scaled with respect to the global average and global standard deviation so as to facilitate performance comparison across GATE papers and over a block of years since GATE 2005.

GATE SCORE =

Where

m = marks obtained by the candidate.

a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2008

s = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2008

= global average of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years (2005-2008)

= global standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years (2005-2008)

The maximum score can be 1000.

The evaluation of the ORS is carried out by a computerized process using scanning machines, with utmost care. Requests for revaluation of the answer script and re-totaling of marks will not be entertained.

The GATE results of the qualified candidates will be made available to interested organizations (educational institutions, R & D laboratories, industries, etc.) in India and abroad based on written request by the organization and on payment. Details can be obtained from GATE Chairmen of IITs/IISc.

Rajat Kapoor’s directorial debut, Raghu Romeo, didn’t do as well as he’d hoped, although it was critically acclaimed. His next film, Mixed Doubles, which dealt with wife swapping, was not even noticed. It was this year’s release, Bheja Fry, an out and out comedy, that has brought Rajat both critical appreciation as well as box office success.

Rajat Kapoor post Bheja Fry hasbecome a director to watch out for. Small budget films, with good story and good actors( not big actors) is his forte. And MithyaPlanman Motion Pictures and will be Rajat’s next release after Bheja Fry. adds on to his list of movies. Mithya is produced by Arindam Chaudhuri’s

Rajat gives a sneak preview of the movie and says ,”Mithya, means lie. It’s about a very bad actor who is looking for work. When he gets it, it’s about how involved he gets with it. I wrote it eight years ago and wanted Naseer in it, but couldn’t collect the money. We begin shooting in July or August. I have waited six years to make this film, so I am very excited about it.”

“Only time can teach us what is truth and what is legend.” This bit of fake-folk wisdom commences the voice-over narration of “10,000 BC,” and the more you think about it, the more preposterous it seems. If anything, time confuses the issue. But it’s best not to think too hard about anything in this sublimely dunderheaded excursion into human prehistory, directed by Roland Emmerich from a script he wrote with Harald Kloser, who also helped compose, using his better ear, the musical score. Mr. Emmerich has made something of a specialty in staging — with maximal bombast and minimal coherence — end-of-the-world scenarios. (See “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow,” though not on the same day if you can help it.) In the context of his oeuvre “10,000 BC” might be thought of as a kind of prequel, an attempt to imagine human civilization not on the brink of its end, but somewhere near its beginning. Movies Mr. Emmerich makes his way through include “The Searchers” and “Ice Age,” though nothing in “10,000 BC” approaches the poetry of the scrambling squirrel and his errant acorn in “Ice Age.” But the big, climactic fight, complete with an epic snuffleupagus rampage, is decent action-movie fun.

The movies like to promise girls and women a happily ever after, but it’s unusual that one delivers an ending that makes you feel unsullied and uncompromised, that doesn’t make you want to reach for your Simone de Beauvoir or a Taser. “Enchanted,” an unexpectedly delightful revisionist fairy tale from, of all places, Walt Disney Pictures, doesn’t radically rewrite every bummer cliché about girls of all ages and their dreams. But for a satisfying stretch, the film works its magic largely by sending up, at times with a wink, at times with a hard nudge, some of the very stereotypes that have long been this company’s profitable stock in trade.

Despite a very simple hook, Teri yaad is eminently hummable thanks to its sprightly music and Adnan’s dreamy vocals. The title song, Kisi din, is a pretty flat composition and may require a star’s presence to make its mark! But the groovy Baarish, the massy and very filmi Salaam walekum and the excellently orchestrated Waqt help the album considerably. The mellow Koi rehta hai livens up in Adnan’s voice even as the strong middle-eastern flavor in Dekho jaaneman just about saves it. The rest are at best vapid. Adnan could well use an outside composer the next time, for variety!
